Econosmith
Econosmith or Maxine Smith and John Economos as they are known individually, is a wife and husband team, from the tip of Cape Cod in Provincetown, MA. Bringing very different perspectives on everything they shoot, from their differing equipment, goals, approaches and strengths. One technical, the other an artist, each constantly challenging and learning from the other. The end result are images that capture a little of the spirit and soul of their subjects.
Best known for their behind the scenes candid portraits and images of musicians. Strong relationships with producers and performers who have a high level of comfort with Econosmith allows them unusual access to subjects. The end result are images that provide an all too rare glimpse of the person rather than the performer. Their work has been viewed by millions in worldwide publications as well as featured on Late Night With David Letterman, NBC National News, Discovery Channel, documentaries, websites and many CD's including two Grammy Award winners.
Their body of work is archived in the UMASS Amherst Special Archives Collection located in the W.E.B. Du Bois Library.
